Accelerating new treatments in clinical trials in bowel cancer

The first aim of this research programme is to improve care and achieve better outcomes for people with bowel cancer. 

The programme will develop new methods and assess the quality of the treatment options of surgery, radiology and pathology. 

Secondly, it will look at new ways of assessing the response a cancer has to a treatment to help decide which ones to use before surgery.

Lastly, the research programme will investigate the changes seen in a tumour's DNA during treatment. 

This will help to identify which tumours will and will not respond to treatment, how they fail, and whether short treatments before surgery can help predict whether the tumour will respond.
