Leeds fans had the opportunity to take part in a penalty shootout on the pitch at Elland Road as part of an event organised by Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Supporters of the charity from local businesses, as well as winners of a raffle competition, were invited to have their chance to score a goal on the hallowed turf.

The event took place the day after Leeds United secured their position in the Premier League following a nail-biting win against Brentford.

Dr Kathryn Scott, Chief Executive at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said:

“It was a great day to be at Elland Road. Spirits were high and it was amazing to be able to share such a special moment with so many Leeds supporters while thanking them for their support for live-saving research in Yorkshire.”

A total of 40 fans were treated to a tour of the iconic stadium accompanied by former Leeds United players Dominic Matteo and Jermaine Beckford. They were then given the exclusive opportunity to walk up to the penalty spot and take shots against goalkeepers from Leeds Beckett University. After some intense competition, two winners were presented with signed Leeds United shirts.

The competition was followed by lunch and a question-and-answer session with the legends.

Tom Gormley, who attended the event, said: “As if this weekend could get any better, I was lucky enough to be invited to take part in a day for Yorkshire Cancer Research at Elland Road.

“It was a dream come true and I even managed to win myself a signed shirt in the penalty shootout.”

Tom won the penalty shootout with an impressive five goals out of five chances and was presented with his signed shirt by Jermaine Beckford.

Yorkshire Cancer Research is the official charity partner of Leeds United and has been working with the club throughout the last two seasons to raise awareness of the world-leading cancer research being funded in the region.
