A festive 5K fun run hosted by Snaith & District Community Sports Hall has raised £150 for vital cancer research in Yorkshire. Earlier this month, 30 people from the community took part in the event to help raise funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Laura Dilcock, who manages the sports and leisure hall near Goole, said:

“We decided to do an event for Yorkshire Cancer Research because a few of us in the team have personal experience of cancer.

“One of my colleagues lost a family member to cancer last year, and my dad finished his cancer treatment last year.

“Raising funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research is something that’s important to us personally but also it’s something that touches a lot of people in our community, so everyone was really supportive of the fundraiser.”

The community group plan to run the event again next year, with hope that it continues as an annual part of the town’s build-up to Christmas.

Laura continued: “We’d been wanting to do an event like this for a few years, but Covid restrictions had prevented it from going ahead so it was great to finally see it happen. I’m looking forward to hosting it again next year. Hopefully it will be something we do for years to come.”
