Northallerton charity shop to move to new location 60 years after first opening doors

Yorkshire Cancer Research’s Northallerton shop is moving to a new location, 60 years after first joining the town’s high street.

The shop first opened on Romanby Road in 1965, making it the charity’s longest running shop, and has since raised more than a £1 million for world-leading cancer research.

Now, almost 6 decades on, the shop will start a new chapter on the High Street. The move will bring the shop’s pre-loved donations to a more convenient, central location so shoppers can more easily browse and help support the charity.

The shop is managed by Melissa Thompson, alongside a team of dedicated volunteers, who ensure its smooth running.

Melissa said: “It’s really exciting to be relocating to the Northallerton high street. With our relocation, we’re aiming to reach out to more of the local community to raise awareness of the charity and help raise more funds for vital research.”

Yorkshire Cancer Research’s charity shops play a vital role in raising funds to help the charity continue to fund world-leading cancer research and services. To have been part of Northallerton’s high street and helping to support cancer research for 60 years is a fantastic achievement.

“The £1 million raised in the shop is testament to the support of people in Northallerton, whether that be through donating preloved goods, shopping in store or volunteering, and we hope that the move to the new premises means we can continue to be part of the town’s high street for many years to come.”
