Malton Rotary Club raises £3000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research

The Rotary Club of Malton and Norton raised more than £3000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research after hosting its annual golf day.

Martyn Herring, a member of the Rotary Club, said: “We have been running this event in conjunction with Yorkshire Cancer Research’s Malton and Norton Volunteer Group for several years now and it is a thoroughly enjoyable day with many of our golfers supporting us every year.”

A total of 37 teams played the course and enjoyed ideal weather conditions on the day. The teams used the Stableford scoring style, which involves a points system based on the number of strokes taken at each hole, rather than the total number of strokes taken across the whole course, with golfers aiming for the highest score of the day.

The winning team, who managed a score of 98, was ‘Ray Chapman Motors’, made up of Ray Chapman, Brian Lawson, Bernard Clayton and Gary Baker.

Yorkshire Cancer Research’s Malton and Norton Volunteer Group were also on hand to support, with a raffle raising £500.

Edna Drabble, Chair of the volunteer group, said: “Most families have sadly been touched by cancer and it is always very touching to witness the generosity of the golfers who play in this event. We raised a fantastic amount and many teams have already rebooked for next year.”

The event is held annually, and next year's will be held at the golf course in June 2023.
