A Doncaster woman is set to take on the Sheffield Half Marathon for Yorkshire Cancer Research in memory of her grandmother.

Hannah Lockwood will take on the 13.1-mile distance on 26th March, almost exactly a year after her grandmother, Elsie Lockwood, passed away from cancer.

Hannah said: “I decided to do the Sheffield Half Marathon because I thought it would be a nice thing to do in Grandma’s memory."

“A few years ago, I read about how funding into cancer research isn’t spread out evenly across the country and the North of England doesn’t always get its fair share.

"Cancer has had such a big impact on my family, and by raising funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research, I know that the money raised will be used to benefit people in Yorkshire.”

The event won’t be Hannah’s first half marathon, as she completed the Leeds Half Marathon in 2018.

Hannah said: “I’ve always been into fitness, and I used to run my own dance company, but I didn’t get into running until the end of 2019 when I decided to sign up to the Leeds Half Marathon.

“I signed up about six months before the event, having had no running experience before, so it was quite a challenge. I’ve kept on running ever since.”

Hannah is now only a few weeks away from the start line and has been training hard.

“I’ve heard that Sheffield is a tough one because there are so many hills, so I’ve been a bit nervous about that, but I’ve been training and just yesterday I ran 10 miles, which is obviously only three miles short of my final distance. So that’s made me feel a lot more confident.

“My partner and his friends are also running it, so there’ll be a few of us together on the day which always makes it easier.”
