Help Yorkshire Shine this Christmas

Three simple ways to get involved

Help save lives in Yorkshire this Christmas:

  • Dedicate a Yorkshire star
  • Discover the Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre in Harrogate and see your star shine on the Yorkshire Stars tree
  • Donate to shine a light on ground-breaking cancer research and help save lives in Yorkshire

“This Christmas, I’m shining a light on the research that has given me a quality of life I could only have dreamed of at the very start of my journey.”

After David was diagnosed with bowel cancer, his surgeon recommended FOxTROT 3, a clinical trial funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research that has been found to improve bowel cancer survival rates.

As part of the trial, David received chemotherapy before surgery to remove his tumour. The tumour shrank by one third, making surgery more straightforward and less invasive. Having recovered from surgery and four more rounds of post-surgery chemotherapy under FOxTROT 3, David is now having six-monthly checks to hopefully confirm he remains cancer-free.

Because he was sadly in hospital last Christmas Day due to illness following surgery, David is now looking forward to spending an "extra special" Christmas with his family this year. This Christmas, David is dedicating one Yorkshire Star to his wife Anne, for being “my absolute rock”, and another to his surgeon, Mr Richard Baker.

I’d like to thank David for his kind words. I am very grateful for the dedicated and skilled teams I have around me, in clinic, in reassessment, in theatre and on the wards to help get my patients through what can be the most difficult and stressful times of their lives.

“We have a strong pedigree of cancer research in Yorkshire. Clinical trials like FOxTROT 3 give us the best chance of cure for patients like David.”
